Fabric Options

These tents are made with the finest material available with 10 oz canvas known as Plied Yarn or "DOUBLE FILL". This means that two threads are twisted together to make a single stronger, more durable thread. When looking at different types of canvas it is important to look at how tightly woven the threads are.

Another important feature of these canvas wall tents is that they BREATHE.  Other wall tents that are made from materials such as realite, polaris, and gala don't allow water vapor to pass through the material.  The water vapor that normally passes through canvas doesn't leave the tent and condensates inside the tent.  This will cause water to drip on the occupants, which means you will get rained on inside your tent.

Now that you have decided upon a canvas wall tent, the next decision is what type of fabric treatment to get.  There are three different fabric options to choose from.

Fabric Options

  1. Untreated
  2. Water/Mildew Treated
  3. Water/Mildew/Fire Treated

All of theses canvas tents will perform great. Through rain or snow you will still be dry. The difference is what you do with the wall tent when you are done with it.

  • Untreated Fabric Options #1 If you roll this tent up when it is wet and let it set for three or four days you might as well throw it away because it will be ruined. It has midew! You need to be absolutely sure an untreated tent is bone dry when you store it for any length of time.

  • Treated Fabric Options #2 Some call it sunforger, others boatshrunk or marine grade. This fabric has been factory treated for water and mildew repellency. The big advantage here is the mildew inhibitor;even though you want to avoid storing your tent wet, one that is water and mildew treted is much more forgiving if you are a bit careless.

  • Treated Fabric Options #3 is the same as tent #2 but with an additive to prevent the spread of fire. To burn this tent, it would take "supported flame" - i.e. if you held a flame directly to the tent, it would burn, but if removed the flame source the tent would stop burning. Tents #1 and Tents#2 could continue to burn without the flame source.
